My husband and I host Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Every year so I have to Thanksgiving Planning every detail and I start early before it sneaks up on me. I create many lists covering everything from table and home décor to the guest list, gifts, and menus.
First up is Thanksgiving. We usually have 12-14 guests which are great because I can get everyone around one big table. Since I am in the specialty linen rental business. I always start with my table and how I can create something special and different from last year. These are my dishes, chargers, and glasses that will get me started. Next step is to choose the perfect linen and florals to pull it all together.
If any of you are Fixer Upper fans you probably already know that. Joanna and Chip have their own line of home décor that just launched at Target – “Hearth and Hand”. I’m a huge fan so I had to make a Target run and check it out. One of my finds were these adorable place card holders- I just had to have them. I am thinking I will place a picture of each guest from Thanksgiving pasts in them. They would also work well to label each food item or desserts if you have a buffet.

Thanksgiving is all about being thankful right. Last year a client told me about Turkey around the Table which sounded adorable. So I purchased one on Amazon and I’m looking forward to hearing what everyone is thankful for this year.
We serve a traditional Thanksgiving Planning dinner but with a bit of a potluck twist as all of our guests bring something. After so many years of hosting it is a well-oiled machine and not too difficult but it does require good planning. Here is where my lists come in. I plan my menu and grocery list and then plan which day to shop to try and avoid the crowded grocery stores. I also start stocking up on non-perishables. While doing my normal shopping early- especially if they are on sale. Next, I plan which day to do all my prep work. I try to do any chopping ahead of time and store it in ziplock bags. So when it is time to prepare I can toss everything together much quicker. One of our biggest time savers is preparing our mashed potatoes.
Thanksgiving morning and leaving them in our crockpot, on warm. It is one more thing we’ve completed in advance that helps get the meal on the table with less chaos. I bake my pies the day before, cranberry sauce, partially bake the sweet potatoes, etc. Do whatever you can do a day or two in advance so you can enjoy your family and friends and not be in the kitchen all day.
I came across these adorable disposable leftover containers at World Market and I immediately put them in my cart. I normally purchase Ziplock storage containers to send leftovers home with guests. But when I saw these I had to have them. The cutest presentation for their leftovers and in a bag too. Gotta be the hostess with the mostess!
